You Are A Process, Not A Person
When I reflect on where I was and where I currently am in life, I see so much change and growth. Even though there’s an essence to “me” that appears constant, over time my beliefs, desires, and perspectives have all changed. My physical body is also changing, and there’s a qualitative difference in my experience of myself.
Our existence is not a fixed, static state, but rather a continuous and dynamic process of growth and change. Ongoing experiences, choices, and actions shape us.
But more broadly, there’s a dynamic nature to reality itself. Everything in society, culture, the world, and the universe (material or immaterial) is in a constant state of flux and evolution. And our individual experiences and choices are part of this larger process of change, shaped by external factors and also contributing to them in turn.
I used to be scared of change, but now I’m wiser about it. If we embrace that change and view ourselves and our existence as an ongoing process of learning and development, we are often more open to new experiences, more willing to learn from our mistakes, and more resilient in the face of uncertainty.
And in trading, the idea of us being “a process” can help us recognize the potential for growth and change within ourselves, especially when we seem to be stuck in unfruitful trading habits.
Developing an ability to flow with change is so important in the world of financial markets because markets are themselves constantly changing. And doing well as a trader requires a recognition (and appreciation) of this dynamic nature. Win or loss, it’s just all experience rolling on… we’re just moving, growing, evolving…
